RelayRides has raised $5m in the latest round of funding
According to a recent filing, RelayRides has landed a $5million round of funding. RelayRides is a start-up company based in San Francisco that promotes neighbor-to-neighbor carsharing services. Basically, instead of renting a car from a company, RelayRides provides a platform where neighbors can share their cars with ease.
The latest round was announced in December by Google Ventures and August Capital and signals the interest of investors for the new economic model. We’re seeing this trend all over the Us and the Uk, however in continental Europe and in other major economies across the world the market seems underdeveloped.
I believe the trend is eventually going to pick up as news about high valuation are spreading across the financial world. Groupon’s 15 billion dollars evaluation, Zipcar’s rumors of a possible multi-billion dollar Ipo and the founding of investment funds dedicated to collaborative consumption businesses are drawing interest onto the novel sector. RelayRides successfull round of funding is just the latest sign.
